Aromatherapy has been used for centuries in beauty and wellness rituals. It uses essential oils and other natural products to enhance both physical health and emotional wellbeing. An essential oil is the fragrance essence which is extracted from different parts of aromatic plants, such as flowers, leaves, bark, seeds or roots of plants. Each essential oil possesses unique properties that can be beneficial to our wellbeing. 

There are two main ways to reap the benefits from essential oils. They can be applied topically on the skin or by inhaling the scent molecules through our sense of smell.

Absorption through the skin

Essential oils work within our body cells. When applied topically, essential oil molecules are absorbed by the skin and enter the blood stream to be taken to various parts of the body. The oil molecules bind to cell receptors in the target organ to ‘administer’ its therapeutic benefits.

Inhalation and sense of smell

When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils activate our olfactory system. The molecules travel from the olfactory nerves in our nose directly to the brain, impacting the emotional centre of the brain. Through our sense of smell, aromatherapy can be used to promote a specific state of mind. Aromatherapy blends can help you sleep better, boost your energy, uplift your mood and even reduce anxiety and irritability.

We specialise in quality, eco-friendly & 100% natural aromatherapy formulations – all free from artificial fragrances, parabens, palm oil, sulphates, phthalates, SLSs and other nasties. The oils we use are ethically sourced – both in terms of the environmental impact and the fair treatment of farmers. We don’t use essential oils from endangered plants. 

Each product is handmade by us in small batches in our Berkshire workshop to ensure freshness and minimise waste. All our products are made of 100% natural goodness (no artificial or synthetic ingredients) and made to boost your wellness and wellbeing. We want to make sure you’re getting exceptional products every time. 

Essential oils are extracted from natural plant material by steam distillation. In contrast to perfumes and artificial fragrances, essential oils have volatile natural molecules and the scent won’t last as long as a perfume or artificial fragrances. When applied as a pulse point roll-on, the scent will last for a few minutes on the skin. 

The term ‘therapeutic grade’ has been used as a marketing tool by some large companies but the truth is there is no official therapeutic grading of essential oils. For essential oils to be effective and have a therapeutic effect on our wellbeing, the important thing is that they come from a reputable botanical source, are extracted correctly and have the right aroma profile to give optimum benefit. All these aspects are included in our assessment when working with suppliers and choosing essential oils. 

Ingesting essential oils for medicinal use or using them in cookery is potentially very hazardous and is not something that we would ever recommend.

Essential oils should not be used neat on the skin, as they are highly concentrated and could potentially cause a negative skin reaction. Always dilute in a carrier oil or bath salts.
